Prime Appointments Raises £21,600 from Their Annual Golf Day
We are over the moon to have moved even closer to our target of £250,000, as we hit £236,000 from our latest Golf Day, with donations still pouring in to our Just Giving page. So far this year, we have had the Colchester Half Marathon and London Marathon, which have raised £11,015, and we still have the Memory Walk at the end of the year.
The original goal in 2019 was to raise £100,000 over a 10-year period, and in 2024, we have doubled that and then some.
The Prime Appointments Golf Day
On June 7th, at Colchester Golf Club, 19 teams (76 total players) took part in the Prime Appointments annual Golf Day. The weather was kind to the players, and everyone had a fantastic day. The day was supported by clients, family, and friends from across Essex and Suffolk. This was the fourth year the golf day has taken place, and people are starting to see it as a highlight of their year, including Prime Director, Peter Holmes.
Peter said: "As avid golfers, Robyn and I always wanted to host an event where we could bring together family, friends, and clients to raise awareness and funds for our chosen charity, The Alzheimer’s Society. We have organised the Prime Appointments Golf Day four times now, and each year it has grown stronger! We have raised a significant amount of money for the Alzheimer’s Society and plan to continue our efforts over the next five years. The generous donations of auction items and the immense generosity of the bidders make it possible to raise such substantial funds."
One of the highlights of the day was the incredible speech given by Fiona Carragher, Director of Research and Influencing at Alzheimer's Society, or as she called herself, "The Director of Hope." This was a lovely way of addressing the fact that there is hope for those who have this horrendous disease. Fiona worked in the NHS for 17 years and saw directly the impact that dementia was having on patients. Her speech gave everyone in the room a better understanding of the research Alzheimer's Society is doing, what they are trying to achieve, where they are now, and where they plan to be in the coming years. This included the progress Lecanemab is making to slow the progression of the disease.
As well as the golf, other highlights included the auction and raffle, where some lovely prizes were available. The items auctioned included golf days at Wisley and Muirfield. Additional items included an exclusive Meet & Greet with Olly Murs at Thetford Forest Concert, a Mid-Week Pizza Party for 24 People at Deck 1853, and an evening including dinner for 4 with Danny John-Jules, star of Red Dwarf and Death in Paradise. We were amazed by the generosity of those who donated such fantastic items and also those who bought the items to help raise money.
MD Robyn Holmes said: "33 years ago, my best friend Margaret and I founded Prime Appointments, and we had an incredible time together. Tragically, at just 51, Margaret was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. It’s heartbreaking to see how much she has changed; she no longer resembles the vibrant, beautiful woman she once was. Alzheimer’s has devastated not only her life but also the lives of her family. As we continue to support Margaret and The Alzheimer’s Society, I couldn’t be prouder of what we’ve achieved together with our staff, family, friends, and business partners. I am also proud of the amazing support they continue to provide in raising awareness of this terrible disease."
Our Next Mission in October 2024
We have our annual Memory Walk taking place again this year, where members of the Prime Appointments team and members of the public will walk the route created by Director Peter Holmes to raise money and awareness for Alzheimer's research.
