Creative recruitment: how a design student turned staffing into a fine art…

Everyone knows entrepreneurs are some of the most creative people out there! When you’re building your own business, you have to be able to think outside the box if you want to stand out from the crowd. Cultivating their own mini-businesses in the form of candidates and clients, our recruiters have to have these qualities in spades if they are to succeed. That’s why it never surprises us when creative people like our very own Graphic Design graduate Katie Holmes take to consultancy like ducks to water.

One year after graduating from her Design degree with a 2.1 and just a few short months after completing an internship with a prestigious, London-based design agency, Katie joined our team. In a job market where creative people have more options than ever, we decided to find out what attracted her to the hustle and bustle of recruitment life…

Why did you decide to become a Recruitment Consultant?

I love dealing and speaking to people – doing a job where you talk and interact with people all day everyday seemed like a great career path for me!

How has studying Design at University prepared you for this role?

Studying design was fabulous as was doing a degree in general. It gave me a creative, organised and concise work ethic. I am creative - that’s helped me with recruitment with regards to my approach to candidates, approach to my marketing and messaging to clients and helped me understand certain roles in more depth due to studying the skill sets myself.

What has it been like interacting with business leaders so soon after leaving University?

I’ve enjoyed interacting with business leaders – university encouraged us to speak in public and step out of our comfort zones anyway – after all business leader or not they are just people like the rest of us.

What is it about Prime that you enjoy?

So many things about Prime I enjoy but you could say I’m biased – I love the people here, our beautiful offices, our team moral, our marketing and our brand.

What would you say to any graduates considering a career in Recruitment?

Do it! It’s rewarding, no day is ever the same and helping people find a dream job is a feeling like no other.
