Why might agencies ask me to fill in a registration portal?

You have spoken to a recruiter and were selected to be progressed for the position of your dreams. But wait! They have now disclosed you need to register on their database before you can even think about being sent across and receive company details … many candidates can understandably feel hesitant once told this. What database? Does this mean my CV is going to be out there for the whole world to see? Am I going to receive countless phone calls now? Why don’t I just find out who the position is for and apply direct to save the hassle?

The recruitment process requires an ethical approach. Companies choose a third party to support onboarding for a number of reasons, deciding on a specific agency with the understanding that they can act as a trusted partner and extension of their business when making decisions. Consequently, we need to demonstrate we are compliant with sensitive data handling procedures and doing our job to protect your rights. It needs to be known that an individual has consented not just to be sent for a position (you did this when applying!) but for us to process their information and act as an advocate, emphasizing why the role should be theirs when speaking to the client. After all, two good opinions are better than one!

A recruiter storing candidate information on their database is safer than storing their CV on a laptop, should there be the case of a cyber attack and your data is breached. You might discover this safer than agreeing to the tracking cookies on Google which sell your data every day as well! Recruiter databases are for your recruiter and your recruiter only, unless you explicitly consent for us to send speculative applications for you - even then, we anonymise names and locations to continue to protect you. Recruiters can also specify in their notes you do not wish to be contacted for other vacancies and archive your profile if your search discontinues.

If you are ever unsure about how your information is handled or want to make any changes to permissions, please do not hesitate to ask your assigned consultant. We would be more than happy to discuss this with you on 01376 502999
