Five reasons to start a new career in Health and Social Care

70% of adult social care workers would recommend their job. Here’s why...

If you’re looking for a varied, emotionally rewarding job, a career in adult social care could be for you. Even if you have no previous experience in the industry, you could still use the transferable skills you may have already built up in previous roles to get started.

Here are our Health & Social Care consultant, Kate's, top 5 reasons to get into Care work:

1. Rewarding

Looking after the vulnerable whether it be the elderly or learning difficulties is a truly rewarding job. Our carers like knowing they are improving the lives of others and hold a great pride in their career choices. If you're looking for a job that makes a difference to peoples lives and feeling a sense of achievement in your career choices, then working in Care could be the role for you.

2. Social

Care workers are spending a lot of time with the people they are caring for. They get to spend their working time with residents talking and learning about their lives, building relationships and chatting the shifts away. Thats one of my favourite perks off the job! As a social and integrated character, these aspects of a career in Care make all the difference.

3. Good progression

We often see on CVs that candidates have progressed within the same company, from carer to senior team leaders / deputy manager /home manager. The job security in care is something our candidates favour, knowing there's always room for progression. With there always being a demand for work in Care, the opportunities for flexibility and stability are so important.

4. Flexibility

Care offers a variety of working patterns, with part time care jobs showing the most interest, we also cover full time as well as days or nights. These jobs either have fixed contracts or work 0 hours when working through an agency. Ultimately, working in Care is flexible around you! Carers are needed all over the country so it doesn’t matter if candidates relocate as we can always find them a new placement.

5. Variety

Care covers a range of services from high dependency to general supervision. This can be with elderly, learning disabilities and mental health, so candidates can explore a range of care positions and find what suits them.

Care work can be hard, building relationships with residents and co workers are all amazing parts of the job but managing personal connections and emotional attachments require a happy balance.
